“Top shelf whiskey. Any brand will do. Make it a double,” I mutter to the waitress when she saunters to my table. I’m not that far gone to start slurring yet.

“Will that be all?” She bends over enough for me to see the way her cleavage is enhanced above the lacy trim of the tight little corset hugging her skin. My dick stirs. My hands roamed his injured, glorious body, reaching for his face and pulling his mouth toward mine. Beat, heart. He tasted of mint, coffee, and heaven. It was wrong to want that, to want him. It didn’t matter—my heart needed him. Him. But why? My lips were on his, again, and it was the only place they desired to be. His hands roamed, inching beneath the fabric of my thermal top, his fingers gentle and soft on my skin.

Julian’s touch radiated its burn with an endless shiver through me, leaving my skin pulsating at the mere sensation of his fingertips against my flesh. If he calls me “babby” one more time, I might lose it.

I reached for his mouth, that dangerous weapon, and squeezed his cheeks between the fingers of my right hand, pursing his pout for me to devour in the greedy hunger rumbling through me, my thirst quenched only when tasting his mouth. Fucking Julian Molloy. “If it’s what you want to do, then go, son.” Mom dusts off the speckles of flour from the front of her apron. “If it’s what your heart wants, you have to follow it.”
I drop my head into the palms of my hands. My elbows grate against the worn grains of our dinner table. He’s going to hate me. This farm symbolizes everything he wants. I’m the one to take it over. My heart isn’t in it.
“Trenton.” Mom’s hand comes down on my shoulder. Her gentle, loving lips graze my cheek. “Follow your dreams. Your dad will be pissed. Shit, he’ll be livid, tearing the house apart once he finds out. He’s going to cuss, calling you every name in the book.”
Mom pauses, steadying her breathing. Her loving arms never leave my trembling shoulders. This shit is ridiculous. Fuck, I just graduated high school. I’m an adult by all means, yet a terrified child.
“Go, Trenton, leave this ranch and go explore the world. Your dad will come to grips with it. Just never forget your momma.”
“I…”
Mom cuts me off and ushers me to the door. She slings my duffle bag over my shoulder and places my truck keys in my hand. Mom gifts me with one loving kiss on my cheek before she pushes me out the door.

MEET THE AUTHOR:
Natalie Barnes was born in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan on a rainy, September Thursday. She grew up on the Bay Mills Indian Reservation in Michigan’s eastern upper peninsula. 

Married with children, she started writing as a way to have downtime for herself. Never planning on publishing until her first piece was finished. That’s when it all changed.

Not even four months after publishing, “Everything I Want,” she left her full time job as Accounts Payable and took the dive into continuing her desire for storytelling. 

When she isn’t losing it with her characters, she’s jamming out or combing the backroads of the Upper Peninsula countryside. Blueberry picking to two-tracking and gathering; anything that has to do with the outdoors, she’s into.
